The GSE FM implementation stage was successfully completed in May 2009. The key achievements of the second stage of the GSE FM were the positive user assessments of the Service Portfolio, the high value of the services provided, and the development of an effective service supply chain. The management and performance of the GSE FM Service Network provided the basis for successful implementation of all the GSE FM services in Europe and to expand the services to developing countries. This Service Network brought together the Service Providers, the users and the research community in a unique fora which allowed for exchange of technical and thematic information and experiences. The mechanisms also provided a basis for the implementation of GSE FM specific standards in terms of documentation, data processing, production and customer care. The Service Network permitted the user community to become fully involved in the service operations; this includes providing inputs to the service, providing technical specifications and validating the products. This important bridge between the private and public sector forest user community was an innovative development. Thus the successful functioning of the Service Network provided GSE FM with a credibility and trust in the user community. This has led to a GSE FM "branding" on the services offered by the consortium which will be extended to the user community globally.
